It is difficult to walk a block in New York City without seeing an advertisement. Keeping this reality in mind, I chose to define New York using the Maxwell Coffee Tin. The side of the coffee tin reads, “Good To The Last Drop.” This straightforward slogan emerged from the competition among American advertising agencies. The coffee tin reflects the advertising era from 1940 to 1960. The city at the heart of the advertising world during this time was New York. New York has remained the center of the advertising world in America since 1920. The advertising agencies based in New York City played a critical role during this time period; they are responsible for many of the timeless slogans that we are familiar with today. The advertisements from this time period resulted in the growth of the American consumer market.
