This week has been a very productive and exciting week at the N-YHS! We’ve taken great strides in our research and we are ready to start putting together our creative project next week. The highlight of this week was our visit to the Babcock galleries on 57th and 5th. Though it took us a little while to find it, the gallery was really nice and the woman who we were in touch with was very helpful. She presented us with a folder of information that we looked through and pulled from. She gave us pages of quotes said by Manievich and more reviews about his work. After all my research on the cubo-futurist movement and its focus on machinery, violence, industry, and the abolition of the individual, I was surprised at the amount of reviews that talked about how in tune with nature Manievich was and how his work really touches on his soul and his emotions. It got me thinking that maybe American critics did not quite understand his work or the philosophy behind the style. Certainly the American reviews were very different than some of the reviews futurists got in Russia. Look for an update on “The Bronx” next week on tumblr!
